At its April 18 club meeting Schaumburg AM Rotary donated $1000 to the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) for the benefit of our local Pathfinder District which provides Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Venturing, and Exploring programs in the northwest suburban communities of Elk Grove Village, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, Roselle, Schaumburg, and Streamwood.

Rotarian and club member Bill Paton currently serves as Pathfinder District Chairman.

In 2018 Schaumburg AM Rotary marks its 20th consecutive year of being the chartered organization for Schaumburg Boy Scout Troop 193 that meets at Michael Collins Elementary School.  Troop leaders Craig Durgan and David Frank recently updated the club on troop activities including Eagle Scout projects.

BSA was incorporated on February 8, 1910.  On June 15, 1916, then President Woodrow Wilson signed a bill into law that granted federal incorporation to the Boy Scouts of America and protected the BSA’s name and insignia.

The BSA was granted a rare Title 36 congressional charter, which is presented to select patriotic and national organizations. Other Title 36 organizations, along with the year in which they were chartered, include:

  • American National Red Cross (later the American Red Cross), 1905
  • The American Legion, 1919
  • Girl Scouts of the United States of America, 1950
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, 1958
  • Boys & Girls Clubs of America, 1956
  • Little League Baseball Inc., 1964
Rotary’s programs are developing the next generation of leaders, providing funding to make the world a better place, and making peace a priority.  Our focus on youth by building confidence and developing character and leadership skills goes hand in hand with the mission, vision and family-oriented programs of Boy Scouts of America.
