14/15 Rotary International President Gary C.K. Huang’s theme is “Light Up Rotary.”

The 2015 Pasadena Tournament of Roses parade theme was “Inspiring Stories.”

One of Rotary’s most inspiring stories and areas of focus is the work that Rotarians do around the world to bring clean water and sanitation to those who lack these vital resources. More than 2.5 billion people do not have access to adequate sanitation facilities. It is reported that at least 3,000 children die each day from diarrheal diseases caused by unsafe water.

With this in mind the 2015 Rotary Rose Parade Float Committee named its entry “Changing Lives Through Clean Water.” Many Rotary Clubs participate in water projects around the world and the committee wanted to share that message with the January 1st Rose Parade’s live audience in addition to the millions of television and web viewers.

When announcing the 126th Rose Parade theme, Richard Chinen, President of the 14/15 Tournament of Roses, said “The 2015 theme allows us to reflect on and appreciate the many people around us who elevate the human spirit by who they are, what they have done and what they continue to do.  “Inspiring Stories” pays tribute to those who have loved unconditionally, persevered courageously, endured patiently and accomplished much on behalf of others.  Whether for justice, for charity or for any other good, these stories stand out because they are about those who reach out beyond themselves with humility and resolve.”

Chinen’s comments dovetail nicely with Rotary International’s motto of “Service Above Self”.
