Our July 13 club meeting featured a visit from Hoffman Estates High School’s Team SimpleChip who shared their exciting experience as young entrepreneurs in Twp High School District 211’s inaugural INCubatoredu program that kicked off during the 15/16 school year.  Their business idea and plan focused on creating a bracelet containing RFID technology to tackle school security and attendance-taking issues.  Rotarian and club member Lori Corrigan (pictured at right above) coached this team for the duration of the school year.

INCubatoredu is a new business course offered at our local high schools that utilizes experiential, hands-on learning to teach students how to start a small business. In May 2016, SimpleChip was the student team from HEHS selected to compete in District 211’s Business Incubator Pitch Night where one team from each of the district’s five high schools pitched their business idea to investors -otherwise known as community “sharks” - to try and earn start-up money for their company.  Team DeoTech from Palatine High School won the competition and earned $25,000 from the Dist 211 Foundation.  Students enrolled in this class worked not only with their respective classroom teachers, but also had unprecedented support from volunteer community content-experts, coaches and mentors.

SimpleChip talked about what a great experience being in the year-long innovative class has been, and how much they have learned and grown from the experience. Thanks for visiting us SimpleChip - we enjoyed hearing your story & cannot wait to see where your entrepreneurial journey takes you!
