Schaumburg AM Rotarians recently donated 21 backpacks filled with school supplies that included pens, pencils, rulers, notebooks, folders, 3 ring binders, glue, sticky notes, scissors, crayons and markers to the WINGS (Women In Need Growing Stronger) Program which is one of the largest domestic violence service and housing agencies in the state of Illinois.  WINGS offers temporary safe shelter, transitional housing, resources and counseling services to single women and women with children who are survivors of domestic violence.

Backpacks will be distributed to children of single parent families currently residing in WINGS provided housing.  These families are striving for financial stability, independence and an enhanced quality of life as they move away from violence to become self-sufficient and free of fear and abuse.

Domestic violence can happen to anyone regardless of age, race, gender, creed or sexual orientation and affects people of all levels of income and education. Locally the Schaumburg Police Dept. Domestic Violence Response Team provides public education outreach to schools, businesses, and organizations to address the issues surrounding domestic violence in addition to providing information and individualized services to domestic violence victims.
